Situated in a heritage precinct, it was important for the building to incorporate design elements from some of the Art Deco-inspired buildings on Beaufort Street and its environs.

“There are several shops and other buildings, like the Astor Theatre, which were built in that style,” says Fred. “We’ve picked up on some of those motifs like horizontal bands along the parapets and reflected that in the Sky Homes design.”

Other signature Art Deco features included strong corner features, curvaceous balconies and pastel bands on the top and bottom of the balcony balustrades. There’s an emphasis too on entrances and while Art Deco is the inspiration behind Sky Homes’ design, it’s very much a modern interpretation of the turn of the century design ethos.
