Australia Day is a day to celebrate the things we love about our great country.

Whether you’re planning a weekend away, a street party with your neighbours, or a backyard BBQ with a cracking game of cricket, there are plenty of things to do to help you celebrate.

SYDNEY: Australia Day LIVE

Circular Quay from 6:30pm-9:30pm – Sat, 26 January 2019

Watch Australia’s biggest music stars rock – Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens, Ricki-Lee, Karise Eden and many more, out on the big screens around Circular Quay as a flotilla of yachts, jet skis, fly boarders and much more hit the water.

Make sure you find yourself a great position in Circular Quay early to watch the spectacular fireworks show.

MELBOURNE: Australia Day Parade

Melbourne CBD from 11am-11:45am – Sat, 26 January 2019

Following an official flag raising ceremony, spectators will be treated to a vibrant public display of our diverse community with more than 1,000 participants from over eighty community and cultural groups taking part in Melbourne’s annual Australia Day Parade.

BRISBANE: Southbank Fireworks

26 January from 7:30pm

Relax and celebrate the laid-back lifestyle of our vast and diverse country with festivities at South Bank. Watch a free, colourful Australia Day fireworks display at 7.30pm. The best viewing locations are from the Clem Jones Promenade, the Cultural Forecourt and River Quay.

ADELAIDE: Australia Day in the City

Elder Park – 26 January from 6pm

The event begins with one of the largest Australia Day  parades in the country from 6pm.

The parade features more than 4,000 people celebrating what they love about Australia and being Australian and includes over a 150 community groups, vintage cars, horses, marching bands, a giant echidna, floats, giant characters and an F-18 Hornet flyby.

Following the parade a huge free family concert will commence just after 7pm. The event concludes with a spectacular Australia Day fireworks finale.

PERTH: Great Aussie Breakfast

Sir James Mitchell Park – 26 January from 8am

The Great Aussie Breakfast is set to sizzle after a morning ceremony with the Rotary Club of Como. The BBQ breakfast will be teamed with free entertainment.

HOBART: Australia Day Eve Local Artisans Night Market

Portland Hall & Memorial Gardens – 25 January from 5pm-9pm

The Hobart Council Australia Day event will be held at the Portland Hall and Memorial Park in St Helens on the 25th of January. Celebrations kick off at 5pm with a night market which will run until 9pm.

The official ceremony, which features the announcement of the Australian and Young Australian Citizens of the year, will be held at 6pm. Completing the day will be live music from 6:45pm – 8:45pm.

On Saturday the 26th of January, the St Helens Foreshore will also come alive with vintage cars, rides, rock-a-billy music, dancing and more. 

CANBERRA: National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony

Rond Terrace – 26 January from 9am

The National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony is held on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. This year’s ceremony will welcome twenty five of Australia’s newest citizens. The event is open to the public and entry is free. 

DARWIN: OZ RUN 2019

Darwin Waterfront – 26 January 6am-8am

OZ RUN is the Territory’s largest running event attracting over 4,000 people who participate in a 3 or 5km walk/run.

Participants are encouraged to celebrate our national day by dressing up and embracing the spirit of Australia.

Other highlights include a Zumba warm up before the run, music and entertainment followed by a free sausage sizzle.

Whatever your choice of festivity this long weekend, be sure to ‘slip-slop-slap’, as the weather is tipped to reach extreme temperatures in most of our capital cities.
