If you’re amongst the many who watched Nine Perfect Strangers, you’ll know that the filming location was unforgettable.
But in case you didn’t, let’s start off with the premise—Nicole Kidman plays Masha, a spiritual guide and founder of a wellness resort who welcomes nine umm… perfect strangers for a 10-day retreat. And things get weird.

Where was Nine Perfect Strangers filmed?
While the plot is set at Tranquilum House in Cabrillo, California, the real Nine Perfect Strangers filming location was in the Byron Hinterland in NSW. The entire series is set against the backdrop of Soma, a beautiful retreat just ten minutes from Bryon Bay.
What’s immediately remarkable about the architecture is its unison with nature. Timber, galvanised steel and floor-to-ceiling windows blend in effortlessly with the 22 acres of surrounding rainforest.
With an open flowing floor plan reminiscent of Balinese villas, it’s no wonder that the design was partly conceived by Bali native, Rieky Sunur.
This breezy, bohemian style isn’t new to Byron Bay homes. On the contrary, the area is notorious for it. Many houses embrace the coastal aesthetic, playing up natural elements like wood and foliage.
Which is why we’ve picked out seven homes for sale in Byron Bay that evoke the same barefoot luxury of the Nine Perfect Strangers house. Just because Soma isn’t on the market yet, doesn’t mean we can’t partake in some of Byron’s soft, minimalist beauty.
