Upper Kedron is an outer suburb of Brisbane, Australia. It is a residential suburb on the edge of D’Aguilar National Park, about 12 kilometres north-west of the Brisbane CBD.
History and Description
Upper Kedron is a developing residential suburb that lies along Cedar Creek. The hilly, timbered country along the Cedar Creek catchment was originally settled for timber-cutting and small farms.
Urbanisation in the district began on the north side of Kedron Brook in Ferny Hills, in the early 1960s, delaying Ferny Grove’s urbanisation until the 1970s-90s. Development of Upper Kedron followed and it has become an outlying suburb to Ferny Grove.
Facilities in Upper Kedron
There is a public hall, a recreation reserve and a historic cemetery located in Upper Kendron. The suburb extends south to the State Forest around the Enoggera Reservoir. In 2004, its last dairy farm shut its gates.
There is only one school located in Upper Kedron – The Australian School of Performing Arts Film and Television, which is quickly becoming one of Australia’s leading institutions for 3-17 year olds wanting a Theatre, Film or TV experience. Residents can otherwise travel to neighbouring suburb of Ferny Hills for state and private education options.
The closest train station is Ferny Grove, also located in Ferny Hills, which connects residents of the area to the Brisbane CBD via the North West railway line. Due to the proximity to Brisbane, residents can enjoy all the services of a major city and business district.
Industry and Employment Facilities in Upper Kedron
The Enogger Military Camp is located nearby and is a significant employer of residence in the area.

- Defence – 11.1%
- School Education – 4.8%
- State Government Administration – 3.9%
- Hospitals – 3.6%
- Cafes, Restaurants and Takeaway Food Services – 3.3%
Population in Upper Kedron
At the time of the 2006 Census, there were 2,709 persons usually resident in Upper Kedron. 49.3% were males and 50.7% were females. Of the total population in Upper Kedron, 1.0% were Indigenous persons, compared with 2.3% Indigenous persons in Australia.
