On 12th August, a property described as a ‘renovator’s dream’ was auctioned off in a central location of the city. What set this sale apart was the decision to donate all proceeds, totaling $951,000, to various nominated charities.
The property, built in 1989, boasts three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a pool. Its strategic location, within walking distance to both a school and a golf course, made it a sought-after listing during its marketing campaign. The 773 sqm block was listed by RE/MAX agent Ben Williams on behalf of the Public Trustee.
The auction attracted significant attention, with 21 bidders participating. Australian expatriate and pastor, Joshua O’Sullivan, emerged as the top bidder after a competitive bidding process.
The auction, conducted by Rob Doorey of Apollo Auctions, began with an opening bid of $800,000. After 35 bids, Mr. O’Sullivan secured the property with an additional bid of $1,000, outbidding an overseas investor.
Ben Williams commented on the auction’s dynamics, noting that while there was potential for the sale to reach the $1 million mark, the final sale price was reflective of the property’s market value.
The O’Sullivan family, who recently returned to the Gold Coast after 15 years in Japan, had been renting nearby. They intend to move into the property and undertake the necessary repairs and renovations.
The primary beneficiary of this sale is Guide Dogs Australia, as per the wishes of the late property owner. This sale exemplifies how the real estate sector can play a role in supporting charitable causes, showcasing a blend of business acumen and community responsibility.
