Best Suburb to Live in Brisbane

Brisbane house price growth in the last 10 years

Looking to buy a house in Brisbane? Perhaps you already live there and are seeking a change of scenery, or maybe you are looking for an empty lot to build a new home in Brisbane. With the capital of Queensland’s proximity to the Gold Coast, people have always flocked to Brisbane for its convenient location and its pleasant climate.

Let’s get to know six of the most popular suburbs in the Brisbane metro area; we will also go through the positives of each area to help you choose the suburb that might be the best for you and your family.

Kangaroo Point

Conveniently located between two of the main bridges leading to the Brisbane CBD and surrounded on three sides by the Brisbane River, Kangaroo Point is not only close to the action, but it’s also stunningly beautiful. With its alluring cliffs, river trail, and promenade, one could spend an entire weekend here and only begin to scratch the surface of everything Kangaroo Point offers.

Best Suburb to Live in Brisbane

West End

Another riverfront suburb makes our list, and it is one of the most trendy neighbourhoods in Brisbane. Along with the endless boutique shops as well as its hip bars and restaurants, West End is where most people of Brisbane come to spend a Saturday afternoon–especially the Saturday West End Markets. If you’re seeking a locality that is slightly more upmarket and happening, this may be the place for you!

New Farm

Located just across the river from Kangaroo Point is New Farm. This neighbourhood is one of the oldest suburbs in Brisbane, originally designated as a farming area in the first half of the 19th century. It’s the perfect choice for those who want everything within walking distance, as you could walk from one side of the neighbourhood to the other in just thirty minutes. If you hop onto the metro at Fortitude Valley station at one end of the suburb, you could be anywhere in the city in twenty minutes.

Alderley

For people with families who want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the suburbs closer to downtown, Alderley offers something of a more traditional suburban neighbourhood suited to family living. It’s the kind of place where you’re likely to find kids playing games in the park in the evenings. While it may look far out on the map, thanks to its proximity to the metro line, you can simply take the train at Alderley station to get to downtown in twenty minutes flat!

Best Suburb to Live in Brisbane

Paddington

This is another popular neighbourhood for the more affluent of Brisbane’s populace. Antique stores and brunch restaurants are in abundance here, making it a neighbourhood in which you can shop till you drop, spend all evening on a restaurant patio, and chat with locals and tourists alike. For something more exciting, the nearby Suncorp Stadium hosts significant sports matches and concerts of the world’s biggest stars touring through Australia.

Ascot

This suburb is known for its large heritage homes and leafy parklands. Surrounded by stands of jacaranda and poinciana trees, Ascot is also a big name on the national horse racing circuit. Doomben and Eagle Farm, two of Brisbane’s most notable race courses, can be found within its borders. Perhaps as a result of the grandeur of its heritage homes or their increasing values, the neighbourhood has attracted a polished crowd. Its family-friendly nature, parks and playgrounds, and proximity to the top schools are all factors that attract established families to Ascot.

In Summary

Families who prefer a more tranquil setting are advised to consider Alderley, as it is away from the business and noise of the city. For the more young and hip, we recommend trying Kangaroo Point or New Farm. For those with a bit more disposable income who want to be close to the action, Paddington is an excellent choice. Finally, if you are looking for grand Queenslander heritage homes and leafy parklands, Ascot is a great suburb to consider.
